The Learning Curve

When I decided to create Petals on Wings my vision was simple.  I desired to create a company that helps individuals awaken to the limitless possibilities within themselves.  Based upon on many factors I wanted it to be an ecommerce based business.  I saw in my mind’s eye clients finding their purpose in life.  I envisioned wheelchairs being pushed aside and clients leaping off of the massage table.  I saw myself with a microphone in front of audiences teaching classes about love and living.  

               I started to learn at the end of December that seeing and being are not the same.  I did not see myself on the phone with my web hosting company at 2 am Sunday trying to speak techno jargon.  I did not see myself with a maze of wires and cables as I installed a piece of equipment to another.  I could not envision myself tracking down elusive vendors that were late with deadlines.  I had no idea of that sometimes 24 hours would not seem like enough.

The strongest advice I have is that heart is not enough.  It does not matter how well trained you are.  Desire is not sufficient.  Pretty graphics on a business card is not a marketing campaign.   

If you want to create a professional based metaphysical business, you have to have infrastructure.  Who will answer the phone for you when you are working your day job?  If you are planning on creating an ecommerce based business are you familiar with web development or design?  Who is going to set up and clean up when you have an event?  Do you know the rules for tweeting?  You have now created this website for your business, but do you know how to get traffic to your site by search engine optimization?  Yes, there is a formal term for this.  

My greatest challenges have been the under estimation of the infrastructure needed to create Petals On Wings.  In less than 3 months I have launched four different versions of my website by myself with no technological background.   I have been persistent and was able to finally create a website that reflects some of my vision for what I see Petals On Wings becoming.  The Facebook page finally has depth and likes.  I have a phone service that answers my calls, sends me a text when a call is received, and emails me a copy of the voice message.  This gives me an opportunity to return phone calls when I can completely focus on my client’s needs.  I actually have a PayPal account and also a mobile means to accept credit cards when I provide in person services.  I have learned to do to cluster booking.  This allows me to be fresh and attentive to my client’s needs without feeling like I am running around directionless.  

After everything is said and done I have been very fortunate.  The owner of one the venues I work at pointed out to me that usually it takes months to get the response that Petals on Wings has gotten in the metaphysical  community.  Doors have opened for me.  Blessings have come to me in so many ways.  We have now even expanded to having an international client base.  I am now able to share the love I have better because I have taken the time to create the infrastructure for Petals On Wings.
